Problem

You are a pipeline owner or workspace admin, but are unable to manage pipeline permissions. You do not see the Permissions menu item on any resource (such as clusters, jobs, or pipelines). Because of this, you cannot set permissions such as Can View or Can Manage.

Note

This issue should not apply to any workspace created after November 2023 as the necessary access controls are enabled by default.

Cause

The workspace configuration Clusters, Pools, Jobs Access Control is toggled off. When this setting is disabled, it prevents users from modifying permissions.

Solution

  1. Log in to your Databricks workspace.
  2. Click your username in the upper right corner.
  3. Select Settings in the dropdown menu.
  4. Click Security.
  5. Locate the configuration Clusters, Pools, Jobs Access Control toggle and switch it on to enable.
  6. Save the changes and reload the workspace in the browser.

You can now view the Permissions option on resources in your workspace and manage permissions as needed.

Note

Once the configuration Clusters, Pools, Jobs Access control is toggled on, it disappears from the Settings page and cannot be disabled. For more information, review the Access controls lists can be enabled on upgraded workspaces (AWSAzureGCP) release note.
